- In batik work the cloth is coated with a thin film of wax poured on at the boiling point
- after this hardens the pattern is incised in the wax with a sharp pointed instrument. When dipped in the dye the color penetrates through the tracing while the cloth, protected by the wax, retains its original color. When more than one color is desired the process is repeated.
