Description
Northern India, Punjab District. The Kashmir shawl was usually made of small pieces of exquisetly woven fragments joined by sewing to form the design. Long shawls with plain fields, were woven in one piece, as were also the shawls with embroided patterns. While these shawls to-day have no commercial value, in the middle of the 19th century a fine shawl cost from $500 to $3,000.
